Too much content? It is an interesting question and surprisingly, the answer is no not really although there is one exception. You can, however, have the wrong content. Let me explain.
If the content you are providing is worthwhile and is sought after by users then you cannot have too much. If the content you are providing is simply the same thing rehashed a hundred times then it is taking up valuable space and probably not contributing to your business – in fact, it could be detracting from your business.
I said there was one exception and it is an necessary exception. Like everything in life, your webpage requires fixed concentration and maintenance. If you sustain adding pages there is a real risk that the site becomes overly big for you to manage. If that happens, you have reached a point where there is overly content, not for the web, really likely not for your commerce but surely for you.
With that in mind, occasionally less can be more. When we chat about providing new content, there are numerous ways of achieving this. Writing a blog is one apparent technique but it isn’t the just method. The content you already have should be manageable enough that you can modify and freshen each page on a regular basis. Once a page is created, it is not locked in for life.
In fact, rather than locking that page in for life, get into the habit of constantly reviewing your pages and making changes and updating the information on a regular basis. It is a site that has all the latest information and is well worth returning to on a regular basis. Having up-to-date information tells your visitors that your site is not a set and forget site.
Can you have too much content? When it comes to the Internet, no. When it comes to your business, probably. When it comes to your ability to manage and keep it updated and fresh – most definitely yes.
