Diversify Your Portfolio by Investing in Metals

The unique economic climate that we currently find ourselves in means the US and other major countries have been increasing the available money supply at escalating rates. Unfortunately by increasing the money supply risks rising inflation which puts conventional investments such as bonds, bank certificates of deposit and other fixed investments directly under jeopardy.

The more dollars that are created the less each dollar is worth. As this increase in money supply hits the economy so prices rise and what you, business, and I pay for goods and services also increases thus price inflation. Higher inflation can have a direct impact on the traditional investment portfolio. It is time to consider diversifying your portfolio by investing in metals.

When you buy traditional stock it basically comes in one format and one format only…stock. It could be a paper certificate or value that you see on your broker’s website but essentially it is just sock. Uniquely for investors however, precious metals come in a variety of formats to suite a variety of investor’s needs and investment styles.

Typically precious metals can be held as a paper investment including a futures contract, a certificate of ownership, shares in a fund traded on the exchanges, or more popularly in the actual physical metal itself. The form the precious metal takes does have a bearing on its appropriateness and its level of risk.

Precious metals, on the other hand, can be had as a “paper investment” (such as through a certificate of ownership or a futures contract) or shares in an exchange-traded fund or in the actual physical metal itself. Unlike many other investments, the form the precious metal takes does indeed have a bearing on its level of risk and appropriateness.

Gold, silver, and sometimes platinum are arguably the most versatile of precious metal investments. Traditionally precious metals like gold and silver can be held as coins or jewellery. Other metals are difficult to hold in their physical form with only Platinum becoming a more poplar if expensive alternative to gold and silver.

Each and every investor should consider a variety of investment vehicles in their portfolio. Diversification is a great way to minimize your risk and help preserve your long term investments goals and wealth-building results. As worrying economic trends continue investing in precious metals like gold and silver is a great hedge against inflation.
